Newsletter #12: How to Structure Your Logseq Graph for Insight

Hi Logseqers!

After a short break, we're back with a newsletter chock-full of resources to help you get more out of Logseq.

This week, you get a sneak peek of the coming Sync and Whiteboard features, an overview of new plugins and themes, and learn everything you need to know about structuring your graph.

Let's dig in!

New in Logseq

We're up to version 0.7.9., with the last few updates adding some more polish to Logseq. Download the latest version from Logseq.com or check inside the app (... > Settings) to update.

Apart from fixes, we've overhauled the property:: system. This should make it easier to maintain your personal system of metadata.

From now on, whenever you type :: you'll see a list of previously used property keys, which filters as you type:

When selecting a key, you'll see all the values you've used in combination with that key:

Sneak peek: Logseq Sync and Whiteboard

๐Ÿ”„ Logseq Sync
We're close to launching our Logseq Sync service in closed beta. If you've been struggling to keep your devices in sync using providers like Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud, Logseq Sync will be the solution.

Sync will be available in free and paid plans, and our OpenCollective Backers and Sponsors will first get access via the closed beta. We'll soon send you an email with more information.

New themes and plugins

Several new themes and plugins landed in the Marketplace in the past weeks. Search for them in ... > Plugins > Marketplace within Logseq.

๐ŸŽจ Luma Theme
Designer Gavin Nelson has only recently arrived in the Logseq community and has already created this beautiful theme titled Luma:

๐Ÿ“บ Movies Plugin
If you use Logseq to maintain a personal database of movies, you must have the Movies Plugin. It lets you easily search IMDb and insert the link to specific titles.

๐Ÿค“ Simpread Plugin
If you use the Chinese open-source immersive reading app Simpread, you'll want to use its official integration with Logseq.

๐Ÿ“… [Updated] Banners Plugin
Yurii Piskun keeps amazing us with his themes and plugins. The latest update (2.0) of his Banners Plugin shipped with a widget feature. Not only can you personalize individual pages by adding a top banner, but now you can also add the weather, a Pomodoro timer, and a calendar!

๐Ÿ•ธ How to create connections in your graph
In this video, Stephen Solka (creator of the Graph Analysis plugin) shows how to create connections in the graph view. While the graph needs improvement, it can already be helpful to see relationshipsโ€”if you structure your notes.

๐Ÿ’ก Generate new ideas with Logseq
Another useful resource by Stephen Solka is this video walkthrough of how he generates new ideas using Logseq. Stephen shows us how he encounters new ideas, processes ideas by restructuring and linking them, uses GPT-3 to dig deeper into a topic, and uses his Graph Analysis plugin to discover new connections.

๐Ÿ“‘ The ultimate guide to namespaces in Logseq
While Logseq doesn't have a traditional folder structure, you can definitely structure your notes. In Logseq, you easily create a page hierarchy using something called namespaces. In this video, Aryan Sawhney teaches you everything you need to know to make order in any messy graph.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Ideal academic workflow, illustrated
Academic and "workflow thinker" Luhmann created this illustrated walkthrough of his workflow. If you use Logseq for research and need to keep track of your sources, this workflow should work well for you.
